What type of computer and software will I need
to access 3PL-training.com courses?
Each course we
offer or have developed uses different types of technologies, depending
upon the material to be taught and the targeted audience. In
general, you will need to have Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher to read
the quiz files. In some courses, Windows Media Player is
recommended for the viewing of video clips.
In general, the
faster your Internet connection speed, the easier you'll find our
courses to access. A 56K connection is satisfactory for courses
that typically do not involve full motion video (such as the CTB
course), but other courses (including the Partnership Selling in the
Supply Chain) will require faster download times.
- How do 3PL-training.com courses work?
Our courses are typically based on the principles of
mastery learning. In brief, courses are set up so that learners
are required to "master" the objectives for a given unit before the
learner is allowed to move on to the next unit. In this way,
each learner is required to demonstrate competency in each unit of the
course. If a learner dopes not receive a satisfactory score in
an area of the course, they are typically required to wait three days
and then to take an alternate quiz covering the same material.
We feel it is very important that learners be able to achieve the
goals that were established for each unit of the course.
- Do you offer courses in areas other than third
party logistics?
No. We specialize in
serving the needs of individuals in the transportation field.

I'm enrolled in the CTB course. Can I
print out the CTB quizzes and use them to study?
It is not
recommended, and here's why. Studying the individual questions on a quiz
can lead to problems, since the quiz questions are not repeated in the
exam (though the quiz questions cover the same content as the
examination.) Also, it's a matter of quiz security - we don't want
our quizzes to be printed and wind up in the hands of someone who has
not yet taken the same quiz.
- I'm enrolled in the CTB course. Can I print out
the study guides?
Yes, feel free to
do so, though you should not distribute them to individuals that are
not enrolled in the CTB course. If you want a printed version of
the study guide, a Word-based study guide for each unit is also
available on the course materials page. It contains the same
text as the PowerPoint-based study guide, but without the graphics.

Course, computers and speed

One of the most common
questions we hear is related to whether a specific type of computer will
work with 3pl-training.com courses. In general, it is not the type
of computer you have as much as the software and more importantly, the speed
of your Internet connection. Our courses are typically written in
Windows XP-compatible software packages. These software packages
include Internet Explorer, Word, PowerPoint, FrontPage, and Windows Media
files. As long as your computer can run XP software, you should be
fine.
The larger issue is the speed
of your Internet connection. A 56K connection is fine for some areas
(PowerPoint files, word files, on-line quizzes, etc.) but not for video
files. For courses that utilize video, a broadband or faster
connection is recommended.
Here's another way to think
of the relationship between your computer's speed, your Internet connection,
and the course material. The course material is like a truck moving
down the highway, and the "highway" in this case is your Internet
connection. (A 56K connection is comparable to a dirt road, whereas a
T1 connection is like the German Autobahn.) Your computer's speed is
similar to the loading dock where the truck is unloaded. A truck with
a huge load (a vide file) headed down a dirt road (a 56K Internet
connection) isn't helped by a really efficient unloading procedure (a fast
PC).
